The Atlanta Braves are in Philadelphia for a four-game series from the Phillies.
As Mike Soroka did not have a standout performance for the Braves yesterday afternoon their winning streak came to a conclusion at nine matches. With commanding his pitches although Soroka was have trouble max Scherzer took control early. The Nationals were able to take advantage and pounced on the Braves for a 9-4 win.
The last games of the regular are far more significant for the Nationals, as they stay and try in the Wild Card Game. The Nationals would be hosting the Chicago Cubs if that game were today. Even more important is the Phillies perform down the stretch.
Philadelphia are in need of some wins in September. Two games may seem like nothing, but they are currently competing against the Brewers, Diamondbacks, and Cubs. The Mets at four games back are still at the discussion that is wildcard as well. To put it differently, they have a great deal of competition to take care of.
A deficit is bigger than it appears. In any event, having to play lights out down the stretch merely to reach the Wild Card Game isn’t what the front office had in mind with this team. Instead, they went to sign Bryce Harper and it went to set them.
As the Phillies are two extra points behind the Braves in the NL East and two touchdowns. The team to the Braves in the division would be the Nationals at nine games back. Atlanta are in a wonderful position and all that’s left to do is clinch.
We will see how things perform, although the way I view it, they are definitely the team that are yearning to the postseason. Mike Foltynewicz was heating up of latenight. His re-emergence would aid immensely. Folty gets the nod against Aaron Nola tonight. Head under for our complimentary Braves vs. Phillies pick.

Mike Foltynewicz had a coming out party in Atlanta last season. He previously had a career-high ERA of 2.95 and there have been lofty expectations for him to follow it up with another successful effort in 2019. For the most part, this year has not gone as intended for Foltynewicz. That’s an understatement, as he conveys a 5.28 ERA and then also 1.41 WHIP into Philadelphia on Monday night.
Is he starting to find things out at the ideal time for the Braves? He retains an ERA of 1.62 and 1.14 WHIP in his past three outings. August 8th was the previous day that he allowed more than just 3 runs. The match that got him going was an impressive showing against the Dodgers, as Foltynewicz allowed just 4.2 innings of work. A solid showing against a team like the Dodgers might be precisely what he desired.
If Foltynewicz isn’t pitching like a flash in the pan lately, and this is for real, then the Braves will get a great lift for their pitching team. Along with Teheran and Soroka, the Braves are in shape than they were. He has been strong against the Phillies in his career, as they’re hitting .230 at 252 at-bats.
Nola has been okay. He has submitted a 4.67 ERA in his previous three starts. The Braves have linked for 23 runs and 9 home runs at 257 at-bats against Nola. In those 252 at-bats that the Phillies have experienced Foltynewicz, they have listed 15 runs and 7 home runs.
The Phillies are the more desperate team, but that doesn’t always equate to a win. Obtaining here looks like a wonderful deal. Folty is feeling it and I think the Braves are being undervalued at this price Monday.
